How do biometric readers work?

Biometric readers electronically store a template of certain physical in an electronic memory and then automatically authenticate these when the person enters or leaves a building. Geometric fingerprint patterns are most commonly used but others are available including retina, iris, hand, face or fingerprint matching, and voice recognition.
