Chris Lewis Fire & Security Provide an Engineered Fire Protection System for Flagship Car Dealership.

Project Background

As part of Hampshire Technical Service's electrical re-fit of the new Lexus and Toyota dealership in Southampton, Chris Lewis Fire & Security supplied and commissioned the fire alarm system for the premises.

Client Background

More than £8m has been invested in the new Lexus and Toyota facility in Hedge End, Southampton. The flagship development for Snows Motor Group includes the largest Lexus showroom in Europe and a state of the art Toyota dealership.

The Solution

The dealership's new fire protection system provides early warning of a fire by means of Apollo's XP95 range of fire detection equipment - including automatic analogue addressable smoke and heat detectors, multi sensors and alarm sounders. The system is controlled by way of two of Advanced Electronics' control and indicating panels.

The Advanced panels provide the dealership with a user-friendly control system that is fully on-site programmable. The advantage of the Apollo and Advanced Electronics analogue addressable fire alarm systems, against that of the non-addressable type fire alarm system is that, in the event of activation, the main control panel will provide specific text information as to the location (room, area, floor and zone) of the alarm, which in an emergency could ultimately save lives of the dealership's staff and visitors.

Mike Covill, General Manager, Chris Lewis Fire & Security comments, "Apollo Fire Detectors and Advanced Electronics have been supplying us with their fire detection systems and control panels for many years. Both companies deliver innovative, quality equipment and we are confident that Snows Motor Group will enjoy a user-friendly system that will perform to the highest standards."

Because of the length and height of the internal concourse that divides the two dealerships, the area required an engineered fire protection solution. Having assessed the concourse, Chris Lewis Fire & Security concluded that it would have proved difficult to install and maintain smoke detectors along it. As a solution, optical beam detectors were installed that would detect the presence of smoke and trigger the alarm.
