Case Study Detail
The Great Hall, Winchester
18-October-2006
King Arthur's legendary round table was one of the precious artefacts Hampshire County Council was anxious to protect from fire in this unusual project.
Chris Lewis Fire & Security has maintained fire alarm and emergency lighting systems throughout the Council's county-wide premises since 1987. So, when it was looking for an effective method of providing early warning and fire detection within the 750-year-old Great Hall in Winchester, built during the reign of Henry III, the Council turned again to Chris Lewis Fire & Security for help.
Following intensive consultation and discussing various proposals with the client, the solution that evolved was a multi-zoned, aspirated smoke detection system. Specifically designed for this project, the modern equipment is totally concealed within the fabric of the ancient building, preserving its outward appearance while keeping it safe from fire.
