Dorset County Council has awarded Chris Lewis Fire & Security the contract to replace the fire system at Gillingham School in Dorset. The school’s current fire system is more than ten years old and has been causing the school problems for some time.
Working with Dorset County Council surveyors and consultants, DBW, Chris Lewis Fire & Security engineers have drawn up designs to replace the existing equipment in seven main buildings and several satellite buildings across the upper and lower school site. In total, the new fire system will comprise six Advanced Electronics fire panels, 298 smoke detectors, 16 heat detectors and 124 manual call points. The heat detectors will be installed in key areas such as the school’s kitchens where smoke detectors would trigger false alarms, and intelligent reflective beam detectors will be used in areas with high ceilings to ensure optimum fire detection capability.
Mike Covill, Branch Director at Chris Lewis Fire & Security, comments, "We've been maintaining Gillingham School's fire alarm for several years and helping them to resolve the problems they were having. I'm very pleased that we now have the opportunity to provide them with the comprehensive fire protection they need."
Gillingham School’s new fire alarm will be installed during July and August 2010 in line with the school's and the council's requirement to accommodate works during the school summer holidays. The school is among a growing number of educational institutions across the south who are turning to Chris Lewis Fire & Security to protect their sites with fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV and access control.
