What Is An RSS Feed?

Keep up to date with our latest fire and security news with RSS

If you want to stay up to date with the latest news, blog posts, or content from your favourite websites, you can subscribe to an RSS feed on that website. You can spot an RSS feed by the orange RSS icon.

To "read" an RSS feed, you need to have an "RSS reader", "feed reader", or "aggregator". The RSS reader collates the feed from your chosen websites and delivers them directly to your computer - via a dedicated program on your computer, your web browser, on a website, or to your email program.

Most feed readers are free to use, and are non-obtrusive ways to stay on top of industry updates and news.

Popular RSS readers include:

  •  Google Reader, which you can use via the Google website
  •  Internet Explorer and Firefox's internal feed readers
  •  Feedreader, which is a Windows desktop feed aggregator.
